Our Department of Mathematics and Science Education has been accredited by the Association for the Evaluation and Accreditation of Teacher Education Programs (EPDAD).
EPDAD Teacher Education Standards
In a system designed for the accreditation of higher education programs, standards indicate which elements must be present in a program in order to determine whether it meets an acceptable level of quality. Based on this explanation, “teacher education standards” can be defined as “the minimum characteristics that a bachelor’s degree program must possess to ensure the training of qualified teachers.”
The EPDAD teacher education accreditation system is based on three groups of standards. These are, in order, entry standards, process standards, and product standards. These standard groups fall within seven standard areas: instruction, personnel, students, collaboration, physical infrastructure, administration, and quality assurance.
What Is Accreditation?
Accreditation refers to the evaluation and external quality assurance process conducted by an accreditation agency to determine whether a higher education program meets predetermined academic and field-specific standards in a particular area.
In Turkey, the Higher Education Quality Council is responsible for the authorization and recognition of accreditation bodies. The process of authorizing national accreditation bodies and recognizing international accreditation bodies is carried out in accordance with the principles and criteria established by YÖKAK.
Since 2016, the YKS Guide to Higher Education Programs and Quotas (formerly known as the ÖSYS Guide to Higher Education Programs and Quotas) has included information on programs accredited by accreditation bodies authorized or recognized by YÖKAK.
